Man dies after car skids off road and plunges into river in Charlottetown

CHARLOTTETOWN — One person is dead after a car skidded off the road and landed in the Hillsborough River near Charlottetown.

Charlottetown police say they were called to the scene around 2:30 a.m. on Riverside Drive.

They say a vehicle veered off the road, struck a street light and landed in the water.

The car's lone male occupant was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not publicly identified the victim.

Charlottetown police are continuing the investigation.
