Multiple charges have been laid against a Calgary man after a 90-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in her Brentwood apartment last month.

The victim reported to police that a man entered her apartment located in the 3500 block of 31 Street N.W. and sexually assaulted her around 11 p.m. on Jan. 1.

Duran Ross Buffalo, 36, now faces six charges in relation to the incident after officers conducted an investigation, police said in a Friday press release.

They include:

  • Aggravated sexual assault.

  • Breaking and entering to commit aggravated sexual assault.

  • Failure to comply with an order as a condition of being a registered sex offender;

  • Assaulting a police officer.

  • Property damage.

  • Obstructing a police officer.

"This was a shocking and heinous crime committed on a vulnerable member of our community," said Sgt. Michelle Doyle.

"We will continue to ensure the victim has access to supports to help them through this difficult time."

Past arrest over paintball gun at McDonald's

In 2017, Buffalo was arrested by four officers after he brandished a real-looking paintball gun at a McDonald's restaurant, causing a panic.

He was charged with possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, use of an imitation firearm during the commission of an offence, mischief, and four counts of possession of drugs.

Police had also found small quantities of crack cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana in Buffalo's possession at the time.

Victims of sexual assault can report what happened to Calgary police by calling 403-266-1234, or 9-1-1 if they are in immediate danger.
