Man faces charges after allegedly driving drunk with child in vehicle

A man from Upper Musquodoboit is facing charges after he allegedly drove drunk with a child in the car.

Truro Police said they received a complaint from a resident just after 11 p.m. on Saturday about someone who was driving erratically and had nearly hit three telephone poles.

Officers caught up with the vehicle at a business on Willow Street in Truro. Cpl. Robert-John Hunka said the vehicle collided with the police car when it arrived on the scene.

"Because his impairment was so high, he ended up ramming the rear end of the police cruiser," Hunka said.

The driver was found to have double the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

A nine-year-old child was in the car at the time of the incident and was placed in the care of family members shortly afterwards.

The man is facing charges of impaired driving and endangering a child who is under the age of 10.
