A man is speaking out about the heartbreaking moment he found his sister's dismembered body in her Florida home after not speaking to her for weeks.

Alejandro Llanes has explained how he discovered a gruesome scene when he went to check on his sister, Areles Llanes, 58, at her Cape Coral property, after she hadn't spoken to family members since December, per ABC-affiliated station WZVN.

Alejandro recalled finding his sibling with "no legs" and "no arms" in her backyard, and thinks that her dogs might have started "eating her" after she possibly died while "not living a healthy life," per the outlet.

“When I walk in and I saw that, my first impression, it was a pig, like an animal,” Alejandro said, according to the station. “No legs, no arms. It was like a big bag of skin. It was like, ‘God, I can’t believe what I’m looking at and seeing.’ ”

Areles lived alone with her three large dogs, according to NBC-affiliated WBBH.

"What happened is she was not living a healthy life. Drinking a lot of wine, not eating properly," Alejandro said of finding his sister on Monday, Jan. 13, per the outlet. “She probably collapsed in the backyard, and after, like, a week, those dogs — they were hungry. They’re animals. They need to survive, so they just started eating her."

He believes her decision to "isolate herself" could have led "to her tragic death," the outlet reported.

“We used to call her. Every family gathering, I’d say, ‘Come spend time with us — Christmas, New Year’s Eve.’ But she never wanted to. She isolated herself,” Alejandro said, per WBBH. "She confessed to me that she could not stop drinking, and I told her, well, but at least let me help you, you know? And she always refused."

“We cleaned out the whole house because it was unbelievable the way she used to leave [it], and you have three big dogs inside the house and she never took care of anything,” Alejandro said, according to WZVN.

Cape Coral Police haven't confirmed whether the dogs had anything to do with Areles' death, but told WBBH they weren't treating it as "suspicious."

The dogs — believed to be a shepherd mix, a labrador retriever and an unknown breed — have been taken into custody by animal control and will be evaluated, per the station.

Cape Coral Police did not immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE.
