Toronto police have identified a man fatally shot inside an East York apartment building early Tuesday.
Warren Pearson, 21, of Toronto, is the city's 62nd homicide victim of the year.
Police were called to the building on Eastdale Avenue and Goodwood Park Crescent, west of Dawes Road, at about 4:45 a.m.
In a news release on Tuesday, police said they found Pearson lying in the stairwell, bleeding, and he was pronounced dead there.
Several shell casings found but no weapon
Investigators have determined that Pearson went to the building at about 12:45 a.m. and met someone there. A shooting took place in the stairwell, police said in the release.
Earlier, Homicide Det. Stephen Henkel said police found multiple shell casings in the stairwell but no weapon.
Closed-circuit cameras show that a group of people were in the lobby of the building between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m., Henkel added. Investigators are asking anyone who might have been there to come forward.
Officers have gone door-to-door in the building hoping to gather information from residents. They have also been looking for security camera video from nearby homes and businesses.
Anyone who might be able to assist investigators is asked to call Toronto police's 55 Division or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
