Man found dead in South Natomas home after Sacramento police respond to domestic violence
Officers found a man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday inside a Sacramento home where he had been holed up after police responded to reports of domestic violence.
The domestic violence incident involving a gun was reported early Friday at the home in the 2800 block of Aquino Drive, according to the Sacramento Police Department. A woman who called police for help got out of the home as officers arrived.
Police said officers at the scene heard the sound of multiple gunshots coming from inside the home. The officers did not return fire, and no officers were injured, according to the Police Department.
Additional officers arrived, including SWAT team members and a police aerial drone team, and surrounded the home just west of Azevedo Drive in the South Natomas residential neighborhood.
Officer Anthony Gamble, a police spokesman, confirmed at 8:55 a.m. that students and staff at nearby schools were told to shelter in place as a precaution due to the incident. About an hour later, Gamble announced that shelter-in-place orders were lifted at the schools.
Shortly before noon, the police spokesman announced that officers found the man dead inside the Aquino Drive home with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
