Man found guilty in shooting, high-speed chase that killed 24-year-old Sacramento rapper
A man was found guilty last week in the shooting death of a local musician — hailed as one of the most talented rappers to emerge from Sacramento — at a fast food store after a high speed chase reaching more than 100 mph, prosecutors said.
A Sacramento County jury convicted Moses Hirschfield of first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm on Friday, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office.
Christopher Treadwell, 24, who performed under the stage name Bris, was shot on June 21, 2020, after an encounter with Hirschfield.
Treadwell had gone to an ampm gas station and saw Hirschfield inside. The rapper left the store and Hirschfield jumped into his car to chase him, prosecutors said in a news release.
The chase, which reached speeds up to 113 mph, ended after Treadwell lost control of his car and crashed, prosecutors said. Hirschfield began chasing the victim on foot and shot him in the head after reaching the JimBoy’s Tacos drive-thru at the corner of Franklin Boulevard and Fruitridge Road in south Sacramento, prosecutors and police said.
A sentencing hearing is set for Aug. 29 in which Hirschfield faces a prison sentence of 50 years to life, prosecutors said.
Treadwell released dozens of music videos — including for the song “Panhandling” — on YouTube, whose popularity surged after his death. Some have accumulated more than 10 million views.
He leaves behind two children, according to the Grammy Awards website.
