Police ID man who died in Etobicoke shooting

A 23-year-old man is dead after he was pulled from an SUV that crashed in an Etobicoke property early Monday morning and found to have been fatally shot.

He has been identified Mohamed Omer, according to Toronto police.

Investigators say they are searching for two men seen running from the Kiping Avenue and Dixon Road area shortly before 1 a.m.

Although a volley of gunshots was heard near 340 Dixon Rd., police and paramedics found the victim in a Range Rover, which had crashed into a home on Windsor Road at St. Andrews Boulevard. Emergency crews found the vehicle just a few blocks from where police say they believe the shooting happened.

Omer was pulled from the vehicle and taken to hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival, homicide Det. Sgt. Joyce Schertzer said.

The gunshots could be heard near the high-rise buildings at Kipling and Dixon, police say.

Toronto police have called in its homicide unit to investigate.
