GTA man, 23, killed in shooting outside Brampton lounge

Peel Regional Police say a 23-year-old Greater Toronto Area man is dead after an early morning shooting in a parking lot outside a Brampton lounge.

Police said they received a call about a shooting in the area of Orenda Road and West Drive at about 3 a.m. on Saturday.

Part of the lot at Masta's Lounge, 284 Orenda Road, is taped off as officers investigate.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man was suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to Const. Paolo Carretta, spokesperson for Peel police.

Carretta said there was reportedly an altercation in the parking lot before the shooting.

The man was pronounced dead there.

Next of kin are being notified and police are not yet releasing the victim's name.

Witnesses interviewed, video sought

Carretta said no suspect information is available. He said police are interviewing witnesses and canvassing the area for security camera footage.

Homicide detectives are still on the scene and roads in the area are still closed. Dixie Road northbound, between Orenda Road and Balmoral Drive, and Orenda Road, between Dixie Road and West Drive, are blocked off.

Brampton residents are urged to avoid the area.
