Man killed in possible hunting accident near Roddickton

Police on the Northern Peninsula are investigating the death of a man after what's being described as a possible hunting accident involving a firearm.

In a news release Wednesday, Roddickton RCMP said the man, in his mid-60s, was reported missing Monday after he reportedly headed to Penny's Pond to retrieve an injured goose.

Penny's Pond is located outside Roddickton about three kilometres down the Conche Highway.

After the man failed to return home, friends went to the pond but only found the man's truck. His boat was also missing.

RCMP said the man's body was discovered Monday evening along the shore of the pond next to his boat about two kilometres away from where he would have launched.

Following a preliminary investigation, RCMP believe the death may have been the result of a firearms accident.

An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death. However, police do not believe foul play is involved.
