Man perishes in house blaze

Hartland Fire Chief Mike Walton confirmed one man died in a house fire on Mainstream Road Monday evening. Walton said his department responded to the fire call at 7:19 p.m. Monday, July 11, noting the house was fully involved when the first firefighters arrived on the scene. He said the man who reported the fire pounded on the door and yelled into the house, but no one responded. Walton said the blaze made it impossible for firefighters to enter the building. They knocked the fire down with an exterior attack. He said it took approximately an hour to bring the fire under control. The RCMP, the coroner and the Fire Marshal's Office attended the scene Monday evening. They confirmed the fatality. A fire marshal investigator was on scene Tuesday morning. Walton said the RCMP and Fire Marshal's Office would investigate the fire and death. At this point, he said, the fire is considered "suspicious." Walton said authorities are not releasing the victim's name at this time, saying only it was a male senior.
