Man on probation arrested after Sacramento deputies say he drove over school sidewalk to flee
A former Valley High student on probation spotted by authorities in the south Sacramento school’s parking lot fled deputies Friday before he was arrested on a host of felony charges.
The 18-year-old was parked in a parking lot at the campus, 6300 Erhardt Ave., during its morning arrivals, when he was spotted by a sheriff’s school resource officers, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said. The deputies knew the man was no longer a Valley student.
Deputies say the man, later identified as Angel Ortiz, sped from the crowded campus, driving over sidewalks and heading into heavy morning traffic.
Deputies said Ortiz’s car was found a short time later. Inside, they recovered a sack of cash, a bag of psilocybin mushrooms, a loaded ammo magazine and other items. Ortiz was arrested without incident.
