Arrest made after two injured in shooting and stabbing at MS Coast pub, police say

A man has been arrested after a stabbing and shooting that injured two people Wednesday night at a pub in Pascagoula, police said.

Police responded about 10 p.m. Wednesday to the Celtic Irish Pub at 2901 Chicot Street and found a man had been shot and a security guard had been stabbed in the hand, police chief Terry Scott said.

The shooting victim went to the hospital in a private vehicle, police said. Scott said the man was in stable condition.

Authorities arrested Richard Benward Thursday night while serving a search warrant on his residence, Scott said Friday. Benward is a suspect in the shooting and faces an aggravated assault charge.

Police also issued a warrant for the suspect in the stabbing but had made no arrests Friday afternoon, Scott said.

Police have not determined a motive.
