3 charged after weekend Dartmouth shooting that sent man to hospital

Three people are facing weapons charges after a shooting in Dartmouth, N.S., Saturday that left a man with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say they were called to Camden Street at 11:46 p.m. AT. When they arrived, officers didn't find anyone injured, however a man who had been shot turned up a short time later at Dartmouth General Hospital.

The man was then sent to a Halifax hospital for further treatment.

In a news release Monday, Halifax Regional Police said officers found shell casings at the scene on Camden Street. In another area of Dartmouth, police said they found a vehicle that had been struck by bullets. Officers also seized a loaded gun from the vehicle.

Three men, ages 18, 19 and 20, are scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court Monday and face several weapons charges, including:

  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

  • Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized

  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition

  • Unsafe storage of a firearm.

Police say they do not believe the shooting was random.

There have been several recent shootings and homicides in the Halifax area.
