Man sentenced over B.C. rave rape photos
A B.C. man who posted photos on Facebook of the alleged rape of a teenage girl at a Pitt Meadows rave was granted a conditional discharge Monday.
Dennis Warrington pleaded guilty to a charge of distributing obscene material and will be on probation for 18 months and will carry out community service as part of his sentence.
The photos show the alleged sexual assault — described at the time as a gang rape — of a 16-year-old girl in September 2010. The girl cannot be named for legal reasons.
Warrington's sentencing comes just over a year since Crown prosecutors stayed charges against Colton McMorris, the only man accused of being involved in the sexual assault, due to lack of evidence.
The alleged victim has urged witnesses to come forward and said there is no doubt in her mind that what happened to her was a sexual assault.
Police said during their initial investigation that she had been drugged and that as many as half a dozen men may have been involved in the assault.
After McMorris was charged in January last year, the alleged victim released a statement through police, calling the incident and the aftermath a "terrible ordeal."
A young offender who posted pictures of the incident on Facebook was sentenced to one year's probation in January last year.
