Man, 27, suffers life-threatening injuries in Pickering parking lot shooting

A 27-year-old man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was shot in a Pickering parking lot overnight Friday, according to police.

Officers were called to the scene outside a bar near Bayly Street and Brock Road at 2:20 a.m.. They found the victim, who is from Ajax, on the ground with a single gunshot wound. Responding officers provided CPR until paramedics arrived.

The victim was rushed to a Toronto trauma centre for further treatment.

A witness told investigators that the man was involved in a verbal altercation with another man sitting inside a vehicle.

"A shot was fired from inside the vehicle and the male walking in the parking lot collapsed to the ground," police said in a news release.

"The suspect vehicle then sped away."

Some 160 people who were nearby when the shooting occurred were interviewed by police, according to the release.

Anyone with potentially valuable information is being asked to call police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
