Man in stabbing went to Northern California home to sexually assault a child, deputies say
A man who reported a stabbing was involved in a violent confrontation in a rural Northern California home, where he went with the intent to kidnap and sexually assault a child, sheriff’s officials said.
The violent confrontation was reported Monday afternoon at the Magalia home, several miles east of Chico in Butte County.
A 31-year-old Chico man called authorities to report he was involved in a recent stabbing, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release. Deputies, detectives and Chico Police Department officers responded and spoke with the man.
Sheriff’s detectives found evidence that the Chico man had been previously acquainted with some of the residents at the Magalia home, deputies said. Sheriff’s officials said the detectives determined the Chico man knew a child living at the Magalia home.
The detectives allege the Chico man traveled to the Magalia home with the intent to kidnap and sexually assault the child, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The man arrived at the Magalia home and was confronted by two adults. Sheriff’s officials said the Chico man “immediately stabbed” one of the adults before the other adult tried to defend himself.
A struggle between the two men ensued before the Chico man left the home, sheriff’s officials said. The Sheriff’s Office did not release any details about any injuries suffered in the confrontation.
The man involved in the struggle with the suspect told Action News Now that his wife suffered a stab wound to the lung and was being treated at a hospital.
The Chico man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with the intent to commit rape, sheriff’s officials said. He was booked Monday night at the Butte County Jail, where he remained in custody Tuesday morning, jail records show.
An arraignment hearing for the arrested man had not yet been scheduled, Butte Superior Court records show.
