Footballers are used to having their haircut on a weekly or even daily basis, and the lockdown has forced some into taking drastic measures to keeping their hair in tip-top shape.

With hair salons and barbers closed, many have been forced into a DIY cut and one of the popular techniques for men has been to plump for a buzz cut, using electric clippers.

Other players, such as Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo, have relied on their partners to give their locks a good trim.

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw was the latest to take part in the trend, sporting a new shaven look for the first time when appearing on streaming platform Twitch.

The 24-year-old was participating in a special FIFA 20 tournament named 'Combat Corona to help raise funds for charities and the NHS in the fight against Covid-19.

The tournament has featured Gareth Bale, Paulo Dybala and Jordan Pickford, with Chelsea starlet Mason Mount and Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney also taking part.

Shaw was pitted against his England team-mate Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who decided against the 'zero all over' hairstyle, as the pair answered questions from fans on their respective careers.

The pair played each other twice with Shaw prevailing on both occasions, largely thanks to Barcelona magician Lionel Messi - who proved that even in the virtual world he's unstoppable.

By the end of the game, contributors had raised over £6,000 for charity with over 275,000 visitors to the stream and Loftus-Cheek made his own donation after losing a wager with Shaw.
