Man in wheelchair fatally struck by vehicle on Blackstone Avenue in Fresno, police say

A man was killed by a vehicle Friday night while trying to cross Blackstone in Fresno.

Police said the collision happened at 10 p.m. on North Blackstone and East Magill avenues in front of the Jack in the Box.

Fresno Police Lt. Zeb Price said a 59-year-old man was in a wheelchair and tried to cross North Blackstone in the middle of the road. As he entered the northbound lanes, he was stuck by a vehicle.

The man was taken to Community Regional Medical Center where he later died.

The driver remained on scene and was cooperating. No alcohol or drugs are suspected, Price said.

The road was closed for several hours.
