An RCMP constable has been charged with assault in an on-duty incident last year in a northern Manitoba community.
The 32-year-old constable has been charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm related to an alleged incident on Dec.18, 2010 in The Pas, Man., RCMP said on Tuesday.
The officer was served a summons on Tuesday to appear in provincial court in The Pas, Man., on Nov. 28.
A 28-year-old man from the Opaskwayak Cree Nation alleges that excessive force was used on him when he was arrested for causing a disturbance at a local establishment.
Upon arrest, the man was taken to the RCMP detachment in The Pas, where the incident allegedly took place, according to police.
The officer has been placed on administrative duties pending an internal review. He has nearly six years of service with the RCMP, according to the police force.
