Lizzie Borden, a Christian woman from Fall River, Massachusetts, was pegged as an ax murderer in 1892 after her father and stepmother were both found dead in the family’s home. You may be familiar with the infamous (yet disturbing) rhyme which details how she whacked them both numerous times with a hatchet. Although she was acquitted for the crime in 1893; the mystery of their deaths remains unsolved.

Now, the house where Borden spent her final years of life is for sale. If you're a lover of fine Victorian architecture and a tinge of paranormal activity, you're going to want to check this out. The mansion, which Borden dubbed Maplecroft, is currently going for $890,000. It's located at 306 French St., Fall River, and is only a short distance away from the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast Museum, where the murders actually took place.

Back in 2017, the home was also on the market, where it was purchased by the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast Museum owners. They intended to turn it into a companion museum; however, their plans fell through. Boston.com spoke with Jerry Pacheco, operations manager for the Lizzie Borden B&B and museum, who mentioned that Maplecroft definitely has an eerie feeling to it. "Honestly, that house has a lot of paranormal activity in it," he said. "Even more than here {Lizzie Borden B&B and museum], I would say."

The home features tin ceilings in the kitchen, coffered ceilings, walnut wainscoting, inlaid parquet floors, stained glass, and more. It’s being sold fully furnished— and trust us when we say that it’s pretty hard to snag such well-preserved period pieces like these. Here are a few highlights from the home.

Welcome to Maplewood! Despite Borden’s grisly reputation, we can say one thing — she had style.

Northeast winters can get pretty chilly. Luckily, the home boasts six fireplaces!

A chandelier in the bedroom? We could get behind this.

Borden and her sister Emma bought this home after inheriting approximately $10 to $12 million following the death of their father. Borden lived there until her death in 1927; however, Emma moved out in 1905 after they got into a fight; the two sisters never spoke again.
