How many former Trump White House aides have to tell us he’s as awful as critics say?

Turn the page, Republicans

I appreciated your concise editorial on former President Donald Trump. (Aug. 5, 15A, “As Trump circus returns to Texas, time to move on”) He takes first place on the list of bad presidents.

“The Donald” has lied countless times about his accomplishments. His White House staff was a constant revolving door of people who, when they would not agree with him, were fired on the spot. His efforts to overturn his election loss was criminal.

If he runs for reelection in 2024, I hope he loses in a landslide.

A better way to fight despair

To the writer of an Aug. 2 letter to the editor (9A) bemoaning corporate greed and our politicians: I am so sorry that you had to pay double for diet soda. You blamed corporate greed and asked, “Does anyone in Washington care?”

While I agree that our government seems to be paralyzed, perhaps you would feel better if you put your anger and despair into perspective.

Hundreds are fleeing wildfires and dealing with unprecedented flooding. Thousands are still contracting COVID-19 every day. Tens of thousands of children and teachers are afraid to go back to school. Too many people still suffer inequities and injustices based on economic status, gender and race.

If you cultivate a grateful, contented and generous mindset, you will feel better.

Whom does Granger answer to?

Have you noticed that Rep. Kay Granger’s announcements are typically oriented around spending? She balks at spending when Democrats are in office but praises spending when they’re not.

Let’s be honest: She loves spending our money.

Maybe we need to recognize that Granger doesn’t have our best interests at heart. Maybe it’s time we look for someone else. In 2022, 97% of her campaign funding has come from large contributions and political committee contributions, according to OpenSecrets.org.

Have you ever tried contacting her office? It’s nearly impossible to get to anyone meaningful. It seems big spenders are the only people she supports and responds to — not her everyday constituents.

It’s all about George Soros

A July 28 letter noted that gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke receives many small donations from individuals. It failed to state that one of O’Rourke’s biggest donors was George Soros, who gave $1 million to his campaign. (July 25, 1A, “Takeaways from Abbott, O’Rourke’s latest fundraising haul”)

Soros funds politicians across our country who believe in radical left-wing policies on immigration, policing and energy. He supports liberal prosecutors who allow rampant lawlessness.

Do we really want a Democrat who will become a puppet for Soros running our great state?

Watch out with pesky truth

Bud Kennedy had better be careful. Using facts and reasonable conclusions to shoot holes in baseless, extremist GOP hyperbole is a surefire way to make powerful enemies in Texas. (Aug. 7, 1C, “County declares immigration a ‘disaster,’ ‘invasion.’ Really?”)
