Marc Burstein To Retire From ABC News Special Events Role After Inauguration

Marc Burstein plans to step down from his role leading ABC News’ special events coverage following the presidential inauguration next year.

A spokesperson for the network said that Burstein’s final day will be on Jan. 31. He has served as senior executive producer of special events, and has been with the network since the 1980s.

During his tenure, Burstein has planned ABC News coverage of events including political conventions, inaugurations, election nights and debates, as well as special reports following the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. He started at the network as a producer for Good Morning America and World News Tonight.

A network spokesperson said that Burstein would continue to serve as a consultant. Variety first reported details of his exit plans.
