Ontario father who lost three children to drunk driver Marco Muzzo dies

An Ontario father who tragically lost his three children to a drunk driver in 2015 has died.

Jennifer Neville-Lake, the wife of Edward Lake, posted a heartbreaking Tweet on Sunday, Father’s Day, which included a photo of their children’s grave site.

“Father's Day 2022. This shouldn't be real. It can't be,” the tweet reads.

In a follow up Tweet on Monday, Neville-Lake confirmed her husband had “joined our kids so they can play together, forever.”

In September 2015, the family lost their three children, along with the children’s maternal grandfather, in a drunk driving crash in Vaughan. Nine-year-old Daniel Neville-Lake, five-year-old Harrison Neville-Lake, two-year-old sister Milly Neville-Lake and 65-year-old Gary Neville died in the collision. The children’s maternal grandmother and great-grandmother were also seriously injured.

In March 2016, Marco Muzzo was sentenced to 10 years in prison as well as a 12-year driving prohibition after pleading guilty to four counts of impaired driving causing death and two of impaired driving causing bodily harm. He was granted full parole in February 2021.

At the time of Muzzo’s sentencing, Lake said in a statement that since the crash, he had experienced suicidal thoughts and anxiety.

There are reports that police had responded to an incident at Lake’s home on Father’s Day. After an overnight incarceration, which was the result of a mental health order, he was released Monday morning. Lake’s body was discovered later that day in Brampton by Peel Regional Police.
