Maria-Christina Umana charged in fatal Laval hit and run

A 20-year-old woman appeared briefly in Laval court today in connection with a fatal hit and run on Thursday.

Maria-Christina Umana is facing charges that include hit and run causing death, armed assault and failing to stay at the scene of an accident in the death of a 21-year-old man.

Laval police Const. Frank Di Genova says officers were called to Duchesneau Street near the corner of de Montbrun Street on Thursday morning.

He said a jogger found the man lying unconscious in the street with wounds to the head. The man later died in hospital.

Di Genova said Umana was arrested and her car seized later in the day.

Investigators believe the woman and the deceased may have known one another.
