Maria Sharapova Buys Santa Barbara Ranch for $8.6 Million

Tennis champion Maria Sharapova recently picked up a Santa Barbara–area ranch to expand her real estate portfolio, which already includes a stunning custom-built modern home featured in Architectural Digest last year. According to Variety, Sharapova paid $8.6 million for the sprawling estate, which measures nearly five contiguous acres and includes three residential buildings and a studio.

The main house is a tranquil Balinese-inspired structure hidden behind a distinctive red gate that sits at the end of a bamboo-lined stone pathway. Inside, there are exposed wood ceilings, floor-to-ceiling glass doors, and skylights that flood the home with natural light. Delicate carved wood built-ins are optimal for displaying photographs, books, and trophies. A secluded stone terrace shaded by palm trees overlooks the ocean below, and a cozy detached studio with mustard-colored walls is ideal for a home office.

The guesthouse adopts a more rustic aesthetic, with salmon-colored walls, wood-beam ceilings, and a Dutch-style two-piece front door. Antique chandeliers keep the guesthouse well-lit, and the back door opens onto a stone patio that blends into a large lawn overlooking the mountains.

The final structure is a caretaker’s cottage, painted a calming forest green. There’s a wood-burning fireplace, neutral-colored walls, and tile flooring throughout. The kitchen, which has been fully renovated, boasts a unique jade green backsplash that adds color contrast to the space. Outdoor amenities include a built-in outdoor grill and gardens landscaped with lavender, jasmine, and roses galore. Perched atop a hill, the property features views of both the coast and the surrounding Santa Ynez mountains.
