Mariah Carey Sings Hilarious 'Mop Song' During L.A. Christmas Tour Show: 'Sometimes You Just Have to'
The Queen of Christmas improvised a song about mopping when the stage felt slippery at her Los Angeles concert on Friday
For Mariah Carey, coming up with a hilarious — and truly catchy — song on the spot comes naturally!
At the first of her two holiday shows at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Friday, the pop diva, 54, made up a silly ditty about mopping and mopped the floor herself when she noticed that the stage felt a bit greasy. Fans captured footage of the funny moment, which Carey later reposted a clip of on Instagram.
According to Variety, in the middle of her Merry Christmas One and All! concert, the superstar politely asked if “it would be frightfully tiresome” for a crew member to clean up part of the stage that felt slippery from “hair grease.” Then, once a crew member helped attend to her concern, she decided to turn the moment into an entertaining bit by improvising a bop about mopping.

"Mop, mop, mop, mop, mop,” the pop star repeated while her band joined in, playing a jazzy jingle. “He’s gonna mop that floor really nice for me.”
The “All I Want for Christmas Is You” artist continued the song by joking about how the crew member was going to help prevent her from falling “right on [her] butt,” and even grabbed ahold of the mop herself. “Well, I guess the thing for me to do is for me to try to do this, too,” sang the "We Belong Together" artist, who was dressed in a silver gown with a shimmering overlay and tiara.
“Let me just see / I’m just going to mop for a second so nobody can say I didn’t mop,” Carey crooned while cleaning. “It’s really easy if you try!”
The songstress even hit a couple of her signature high notes, and appeared to be having a blast with the song, as she smiled throughout the performance.

Carey continued to make light of the bit by sharing a clip of it on Instagram on Saturday. “Sometimes you just have to mop, mop, mop!” she wrote in the caption.
Fans were convinced the “Mop Song” could even be a hit, were the “Obsessed” singer to drop it. “Release The Mop song!!!” one fan who attended the show wrote in their post about the concert on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Another fan on X added, “#Mop song by @MariahCarey GiVing Me LIFE 😂 love you MC.”

The “Mop Song” was one of the many stand-out moments in the songstress’ festive holiday show in L.A. Her daughter Monroe, 12 — whom she shares with ex-husband Nick Cannon — also joined her for a special duet of her original song “Jesus Born on This Day.”
Famous guests were in attendance, too. Kim Kardashian stepped out with her daughters North, 10, and Chicago, 5, and shared adorable photos from their night out together on her Instagram Story.
"Legendary!!! @mariahcarey,” the SKIMS founder captioned one of her posts.
The show — which is full of yuletide spectacle, Christmas magic and a set full of Carey’s renditions of seasonal classics and her own holiday songs — kicked off last week on Nov. 15 in Highland, California. The “Fantasy” singer will get fans in the holiday spirit by taking the tour on the road throughout November and December, eventually wrapping up in New York City at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 17.
