Marie Kenny receives top Women's Institute award

Marie Kenny of Brackley, P.E.I., has been named the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Canadian Woman of the Year.

The award is handed out every year by the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada to a woman who demonstrates excellence "from leadership to social change, from local to global reach, across multiple sectors."

Kenny, a longtime member of the P.E.I. Women's Institute, was presented with the award Saturday in Summerside.

"This award seeks to acknowledge dedicated women whose contributions make their communities and our world a better place to live," the national organization said in a news release.

"Through Marie's outstanding leadership, inspiration and commitment to her communities at home and afar, she exemplifies those attributes held highly by the [Women's Institutes] co-founder, Adelaide Hunter Hoodless."
