Marseille Streets Flood as Severe Storm Hits the South of France

Streets across Marseille, France, were flooded on October 23 after an intense storm swept through the Mediterranean.

The Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region was on alert on Wednesday due to violent storms and thunderstorms, intense rain and risk of floods.

The city of Marseille issued a notice to residents that all parks and public gardens would be closed on Wednesday as the entire region was on orange alert.

The storms weren’t isolated to Marseille. Firefighters and rescue crews were mobilized across Aubagne, Cassis and La Ciotat on Wednesday, and 160 calls were answered, according to local reports.

Aude, Aveyron, Bouches-du-Rhone, Gard, Herault, the Pyrenees-Orientales, Tarn, Var and Vaucluse were all issued storm and flood warnings, according to BFMTV, which also said that 300 millimeters of rain was expected in some areas on October 23. Credit: Hugh Osborn via Storyful
