Martin Glazer, Afghanistan bombing victim, laid to rest
A Gatineau man killed in a suicide bombing in Afghanistan last month was remembered as a man devoted to his work, family and friends at a funeral service on Saturday.
Martin Glazer, 43, was killed alongside colleague Peter McSheffrey of Ottawa in the Taliban attack on a restaurant in Kabul on Jan. 17.
On Saturday his girlfriend, Ora Tsang, said he loved travel and adventure, but also smaller things such as watching the sunset.
“Whenever we went biking or skiing, we always raced back to the car,” she said during the service.
“He touched many, many people and he made a lasting impression on all he met.”
“My dear Martin, a part of my heart died in Kabul with you and I find this so unfair,” said his sister Caroline Glazer in French.
Glazer’s final voyage was his sixth trip to Afghanistan in the last four years, having also travelled to Haiti, Malawi and Tanzania.
The president of his Gatineau-based company, Samson and Associates, said he was a senior consultant who had been with them for nine years.
“He was a great, great consultant,” said Pierre Samson.
“Not only is he going to be missed as a friend, also as a professional because he was one of the best professionals that we had.”
Samson said the company will finish the project Glazer was working on in Kabul for the Department of Foreign Affairs, but do so from Canada.
McSheffrey was laid to rest Jan. 27.
