Selling Sunset fans met Romain Bonnet at the very beginning. He showed up by Mary Fitzgerald's side in season one, episode one and hasn't strayed ever since. and, it turns out they were more than just boyfriend and girlfriend way back then. (More on that in a sec.)
He's been at the center of more than a few controversies and squabbles on the hit Netflix reality show. Quite frankly, whenever he appears on screen it's hard not to take notice. (Even with stiff competition from the whole glitzy Selling Sunset cast.) Now Romain and Mary are hitched and making big plans for their future. Still, he remains a man of mystery. It's high time Selling Sunset fans get to know Romain Bonnet.
Romain is French.
That oh-so-sexy accent isn't a fake. He's from France, and his family flew all the way to LA for their wedding. (No wonder it was stressful planning.) Mary says his English vocab is superb and way better than her French.
He's a former pastry chef.
There's no evidence of cooking or baking anything on his Instagram, though. Perhaps a former life? Mary confirmed it: "He hasn't worked as a chef for a few years now."
Romain came to LA for modeling.
He's a Wilhelmina Model with an active profile and plenty of photos showing off his posing chops. His list of skills on his modeling profile includes a wide variety of sports: soccer, swimming, tennis, running, boxing, rock climbing, scuba, ice skating, archery, and volleyball. Notably missing: anything pastry-baking, or chef-related.
His career brought him to the Hollywood area, and it's how he connected with Mary. "Romain flew out to look at some homes in the area and I was his agent! We hit it off from there. His modeling agency encouraged him to relocate because of all the bookings in the LA area."
Mary added: "He models as much as he can, but because of the pandemic, most of his gigs have been put on hold until further notice."
He's younger than Mary.
As in a lot (12-year age gap) younger than Mary, but that isn't holding either of them back. At the beginning, it appeared the age gap could create a rift between the two.
Romain is actually closer in age to her son, who's four years younger. Their season one anniversary dinner date, which she described as "kind of awful," included a rough conversation about their age gap and compatibility. Romain responded, "I feel like it's just a number."
Mary voiced concerns about her age and his uncertainty about having kids in the future with the agents around the office. However Mary and Romain moved right past any conflicts critics saw when he popped the question. They've clearly made it work and are approaching their first wedding anniversary.
As for newlywed life, it's going "great."
Not much has changed for the couple since their televised "I do's" and that's a good thing. Mary and Romain have been keeping super busy with work. "It's been great," Mary told Women's Health. "It's pretty much the same. Romain and I have both been very lucky that we've been able to work through this whole quarantine. Both of us in our careers and industries are essential workers."
In Romain's own words in a sweet Instagram caption earlier in June 2020: "Find someone that can be your partner, but also best friend, partner in crime lol. Someone that’s gonna make you laugh, happy, and support you in the good, but also bad moments. Someone you can share everything with, trust and love. Nothing better than that and I’m great full everyday for having mine by my side !"
But, Romain and Mary technically got married in 2018.
This bombshell news just dropped, and there are receipts. Apparently, Romain and Mary were already married when Selling Sunset season one started filming. The couple initially tied the knot on March 9, 2018, at the Ventura Courthouse, according to a marriage license and certificate obtained by TMZ.
“Mary and Romain had a civil union a couple of months before the show began filming in June of 2018, but they chose not to tell any of their friends or family, as they were still trying to see if their relationship would work out in the long term,” the couple’s rep told Us Weekly. “In their minds, they weren’t properly married until the wedding that was filmed during the show.”
Now, Romain's part of The Oppenheim Group team.
He's not a new agent, he's more behind-the-scenes in his new gig with the crew. Romain does some of the heavy lifting for The Oppenheim Group.
"He does construction now," Mary told Women's Health. "He's a project manager for a bunch of our listings, a lot of people don't know that. So he's been working on all of our projects."
"He's a great leader and an incredibly hard worker. Since the market has been crazy, he has been slammed with jobs as a project manager," Mary told Women's Health.
Romain and Mary want to flip a house together.
If Netflix renews Selling Sunset for Season 4, you could watch how it all goes down. "We're gonna do a flip together. With me in real estate and finding a really good deal and something where we can make a lot of money off of it and he does all the remodels. We're missing out on such an amazing opportunity if we don't do this. I think that's going to be our next thing together, learning to flip a home."
But, they're not having kids "anytime soon."
Don't rule out a family in their future, though. As Romain said in season one, "I definitely want kids." Mary and Romain are keeping their options open. "I'm going to freeze my eggs," Mary told Women's Health. "I haven't had a chance to do that yet, but I have done some research to know where I'm at. So it is an option whenever we are ready but right now we're just enjoying our careers and our time together before we do anything like that."
He has an eye-catching tattoo.
The ink on Romain's chest is front and center on his many, many shirtless snaps on Instagram. If you can pull your gaze away from his six-pack, you'll notice the script reads "Impossible is nothing."
He's only shared proof of his snowy pastime once on the 'gram, but he looks pretty darn smooth carving down the mountain.
He and Davina aren't likely to reconcile anytime soon.
After Davina questioned Romain's choice of engagement ring (moissanite and not diamond), the two have been at odds. He felt disrespected and wanted to keep his distance. Nobody will forget that pool party when he told almost everyone that Davina was not welcome at their upcoming nuptials. (Cue the yikes!) Needless to say, he's been vocal about how he feels and that's not about to change, according to Mary. She supports him 100 percent.
"They don't really see each other, talk to each other," Mary told Women's Health. "She hasn't been in the office either. Davina doesn't really hang out with us, so he hasn't had to interact with her. He still feels exactly the same and I don't think that's ever going to change. But he's not hostile about it, he just doesn't respect her and the things that she said about him. He's a stubborn man and no one's gonna change his mind. And I support him 100 percent."
Romain will send a video shoutout for $100.
If the current episodes of Selling Sunset aren't enough, Romain is available on VidSig and Cameo. He's offering up quick clips on both platforms for $100 each or you can upgrade to a three-minute live video chat that will cost you $300. Not surprisingly, most of his example clips are shirtless and right on brand.
