Mary Spencer to carry Pan Am Game torch for Windsor

Windsor's Mary Spencer, one of Canada's boxing champion, will be carrying the Pan Am Games torch when it passes through the city in June.

The torch will be in Windsor on June 16 and 17 and will be carried by Spencer in a 200-meter relay.

Spencer holds eight national titles in boxing, five Pan American titles, and three world titles.

She is also a member of Motivate Canada's GEN 7 Aboriginal role model initiative. Spencer has developed sport, physical activity, and empowerment programming with Aboriginal youth in First Nations communities in Ontario through the program.

"Mary Spencer will proudly carry the Pan Am flame as Windsor’s community torchbearer,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “Windsor is thrilled to be a part of this historic journey and we look forward to sharing the excitement as we move towards the kick off of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games.”

The torch relay begins May 30 and end on July 10 with the lighting of the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony in downtown Toronto.

During the 41-day torch relay, there will be 3,000 torchbearers completing a 200-meter relay segment. The torch will be carried by 5,000 kilometres on road and 15,000 kilometres by air.
