SINGAPORE — Environment and Water Resources Minister and Tampines GRC candidate Masagos Zulkifli has made a verbal faux pas during an online General Election 2020 rally by mistakenly referring to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as his estranged brother Lee Hsien Yang.
The slip occurred during a People’s Action Party (PAP) rally for the constituency on Friday (3 July) night. Masagos, who is also the party’s vice-chairman, was making a reference to PM Lee’s 2019 National Day Rally speech when he said “Mr Lee Hsien Yang, our Prime Minister”.
The 43-minute rally was taken down hours after it was uploaded online on the party’s Facebook page, but clips of the error remain on social media.
Lee Hsien Yang was recently announced as a member of the Progress Singapore Party, while his eldest son Li Shengwu is facing legal action initiated by the Attorney-General’s Chambers for alleged contempt of court arising from a post on his Facebook page.
