The Masked Singer's Poodle has been unmasked as Tom Chaplin from Keane.

The judges were all shocked to discover the Somewhere Only We Know lead singer was behind the mask in the latest episode of the celebrity singing show as they had been convinced he was Rylan.

Jonathan Ross exclaimed: "Oh my God! No one got it. I should have got it - I'm a big, big Keane fan. But I couldn't place your voice."

Host Joel Dommett told Ross, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Mo Gilligan, "You were all so far off the mark!"

Chaplin, 42, said of taking part on the show: "I’ve got to a point in my life where I don’t take myself too seriously anymore. I think that’s pretty important if you’re going to dress up as a seven foot multicoloured poodle.

"I’ve also become much more interested in embracing different challenges - being in a band is like living on a little island, so it’s good to try things that are out of your comfort zone!"

The judges had been baffled by Poodle's height and long, skinny legs, guessing that he was either TV presenter Rylan, or Grace Kelly singer Mika.

Explaining why he had chosen to be a disguised as a Poodle the Bedshaped singer said: "It was my wife - we love the show she said if you get offered that show you could be a poodle. She loves poodles. One of the prerequisites of doing the show was that I had to be a poodle. My wife had a poodle who lived to 17 and was an integral part of our lives."

He also revealed his seven-year-old daughter was a big fan of the show and did not know he had been taking part.

Chaplin added: "I’m looking forward to seeing people’s reactions to the big reveal. The panel were totally flummoxed as to who I was, so it’ll be interesting to see if anyone twigs before the reveal. I look forward to stringing them along if they get suspicious!"

And the This Is The Last Time singer - who has checked into rehab for drug addiction several times during the peak of his career - said he had found it easy to keep his participation on the show a secret.

He said: "I thought it would be a lot harder but I got the knack of speaking in code pretty quickly. I spend most of my time living in the middle of the Kent countryside with my little family, so keeping quiet has mostly been a case of not spilling the beans to my daughter when she’s been quizzical about me disappearing early in the morning and returning late at night.
