Massive Waterspout Forms in Florida Keys

A towering waterspout was spotted whirling off the coast of Key Largo, Florida, on May 9, as a low-pressure system moved southward over the Atlantic.

This video, taken by Andrea Pettorini, shows the waterspout travel along the coast as she drove through nearby Tavernier.

“Down in the Keys these are pretty common, but you don’t … see them reach down so far very often,” Pettorini is heard saying in the video. Credit: Andrea Pettorini via Storyful

ANDREA PETTORINI: I'm gonna go right by it, basically, this huge waterspout. There's a waterspout in Tavernier, Florida. Ooh, look at that baby. It's over the ocean right now. That's awesome. Down in the Keys, these are pretty common, but you don't really see them reach down so far very often. Big waterspout.
