Obstetric services at the Matane hospital are suspended once again this week due to an ongoing staffing shortage.

The break in services will run from Oct. 10 at 4 p.m. to Oct. 18 at 8 a.m., according to a release by the local health authority, the Bas-Saint-Laurent Health and Social Services Centre (CISSS).

The suspension marks the 10th time childbirth services at the hospital have stopped since the beginning of the year.

"A last-minute labour issue at the nursing staff level is causing this break in service," explained the CISSS.

Pregnant women in Matane will be able to give birth at the Rimouski hospital, about 100 kilometres southwest of the region, during this period.
