Matt Mays, Yukon Blonde coming to Yellowknife for FOTR

East-Coast rocker Matt Mays will join Yukon Blonde and Reuben and the Dark for the 2014 Folk on the Rocks music festival in Yellowknife.

Music festival organizers made the announcement at their annual "Spring Thaw" Dance and Concert Saturday night.

"We're exciting about every artist. That's what makes it such an interesting process," says newly appointed Folk on the Rocks Executive Director David Whitelock. Originally from the U.K., Whitelock moved to Canada five years ago and only to Yellowknife about a month ago for his new job.

He's being organizing music festivals for more than 20 years though and says there's something unique about Folk on the Rocks.

"One of the clinching points for me to come here was to see what an engaging and creative community you have," he said.

"I think one of the things with Folk on the Rocks is that it has such a great reputation throughout the arts community. People want to come here — even though it is geographically challenging slightly."

Past acts at Folk on the Rocks include Vancouver indie-rockers Said the Whale, blues group The 24th Street Wailers and Canadian folk-rock band the Grapes of Wrath.

Organizers will release the full line-up for the 2014 music festival at the Yellowknife Trade Show on May 10.

This year's festival runs from July 17-20.
