Max to Add Sports Tier With Live NBA, MLB and NHL Games — For an Extra Fee
Sports fans who are looking to ditch cable, you just scored big time.
Max is introducing a new sports tier, dubbed the Bleacher Report Sports Add-On, that will offer live simulcasts of NBA, MLB and NHL games from Warner Bros. Discovery channels TNT, TBS and truTV, the streamer announced on Tuesday. The tier, which debuts Thursday, Oct. 5, will allow fans to watch dozens of live games that were previously only available with a cable subscription.

That comes with a price, though: All Max subscribers will get the sports tier for free until Feb. 29, after which the tier will cost $9.99 per month. (For reference, Max currently offers full subscriptions with ads for $9.99 per month, with the ad-free version at $15.99 per month, along with an “Ultimate Ad Free” version that allows for more devices and downloads for $19.99 per month.)
Sports fans will find plenty to watch here, with more than 300 live games each year, including 65 NBA regular season games (as well as the Emmy-winning studio show Inside the NBA), MLB postseason coverage that includes the National League Division Series and the National League Championship Series and more than 60 NHL regular season games, all airing during the free promotional period. The tier also includes NCAA March Madness games, U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Team soccer games and original Bleacher Report content along with live NBA and NHL playoff games and MLB regular season games next year when the tier’s new pricing kicks in. (To be clear, all live games airing on TNT, TBS or truTV will be available on Max via the new tier.)
“We want to be everywhere sports fans are, and our unparalleled offering of leading sports, combined with the power of the Bleacher Report brand and content, including the unique way B/R engages with young sports fans, all delivered through the new Max platform will enable us to broaden our audience and delight new fans,” Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Chairman and CEO Luis Silberwasser said in a statement. “We are uniquely positioned to offer viewers the best selection of premium sports and exciting events and fan-focused additional programming, all within a fantastic multi-sport product that will meet the evolving consumption needs of our viewers — both casual and hardcore sports fans.”
