Mayor Naheed Nenshi dons Ottawa Redblacks jersey at city hall after Stamps loss

Calgary's mayor walked into city hall Monday wearing an Ottawa jersey, on the losing end of a Grey Cup final bet with Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson.

"A bet is a bet is a bet," said Nenshi. "Nothing can take away from the tremendous season the Calgary Stampeders had but I've got to admit, like most Calgarians, I've got a giant soft spot for Henry Burris, so while I'm sad for the Stampeders, I'm at least happy for the game that he played."

As part of the bet, Nenshi also had to read a poem out loud and agreed to make a donation to the local food bank in Ottawa.

"That was the worst poem I've ever had to read. It didn't rhyme," said Nenshi.

As the winner of the bet, Watson will receive some of "Nenshi's salted caramel" doughnuts from Jelly Modern Doughnuts. And that means Nenshi misses out on some Ottawa beavertails.

The Ottawa mayor pledged to donate to the food bank and pull on a Stamps' jersey if the Redblacks lost.

The Ottawa Redblacks defeated the Stampeders 39 to 33.

Nenshi also had to fulfil another bet on Monday over the Vanier Cup after the University of Calgary Dinos lost to Quebec City's Laval Rouge et Or.
