Mayoral candidates share Eid dinner

Toronto's mayoral candidates gathered at a Yonge Street restaurant on Tuesday evening to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Rob Ford, John Tory, Olivia Chow, David Soknacki and Karen Stintz shared some Mideast cuisine and made conversation at Paramount Fine Foods — appearing to set aside the acrimony of the campaign, which just the night before saw them trade barbs and criticisms at a mayoral debate.

"Peace among mayoral candidates is the easy part" compared to the troubles in the Middle East, Chow told CBC News.

"We talked about our families and the parts of the city that we love," said Stintz.

Ford echoed the sentiment upon leaving the restaurant, telling reporters that the candidates were just "having a good time."

"We'll be at each others' throat tomorrow," he added with a laugh.
