McDonald's tweets, then deletes, anti-Trump message

As the not-so-old saying goes, never tweet. No doubt there’s a social media editor at McDonald’s saying that to themselves this morning.

The corporate account of the fast food behemoth Thursday morning featured, at least for a short time, a decidedly anti-Trump sentiment with the following tweet:

The tweet was quickly deleted but an intrepid Yahoo Canada Finance editor managed to get a screenshot.

Was this a case of a social media editor tweeting to a corporate account instead of a personal one? Was the account hacked?

We’ve reached out to McDonald’s for a statement and will update this post if we hear back from them.

Update: McDonald’s spokespersonTerri Hickey has released the following statement:

Based on our investigation, we have determined that our Twitter account was hacked by an external source. We took swift action to secure it, and we apologize this tweet was sent through our corporate McDonald’s account.
