Meat Loaf fans have been recalling how the rocker once said he tried to push Prince Andrew into a moat.

The incident took place during the It's A Royal Knockout charity event in 1987, but stories about it have resurfaced on social media following the star’s death at the age of 74.

The singer was one of a large group of celebrities and royals who took part in the outdoor game show, which saw the contestants battling it out in various challenges.

Talking to The Guardian about it in 2003, Meat Loaf said it was “great fun” and joked that the Queen hated him.

He said: "Fergie wasn't exactly flirting with me, but she was paying attention to me, and I think Andrew got a little - I could be wrong, I'm just reading into this - I think he got a little jealous...

"Anyway, he tried to push me in the water. He tried to push me in the moat. So I turned around and I grabbed him and he goes, 'You can't touch me. I'm royal.' I said, 'Well you try to push me in the moat, Jack, I don't give a s*** who you are, you're goin' in the moat'."

Fans have been remembering the comments on Twitter following the star’s death.
