Mechanic crushed when Dodge Charger falls off jacks, South Carolina coroner says
A South Carolina man was killed when the Dodge Charger he was working under fell off the jacks, according to Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler.
The victim was identified as 66-year-old Thomas Dwayne Frederickson of Gaffney.
It happened Thursday, Sept. 22, at Frederickson’s home in the 4000 block of Wilkinsville Highway, Fowler said in a news release. Gaffney is about 55 miles southwest of Charlotte.
“Mr. Frederickson was found trapped under the Dodge Charger by family members at 6:47 p.m.,” Fowler said.
“He was extricated by EMS and fire department personnel. Efforts to revive him were futile and Frederickson was pronounced dead at the scene.”
An investigation revealed the rear of the Dodge Charger was balanced atop two jacks while Frederickson was working on the drive shaft.
“Something caused the vehicle to move, knocking it off the jack stands,” Fowler said.
An autopsy will be performed Friday, Sept. 23, “to assist with his investigation of the incident.”
