Medical emergency leads to airlift off Flemish Cap

A crew member from a Portuguese fishing vessel off the coast of Newfoundland was airlifted to Gander on Thursday after a reported medical emergency.

The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax dispatched a Cormorant helicopter to the vessel, north of the Flemish Cap, after receiving a call for assistance.

According to Joint Task Force Atlantic, a male crew member, 25, was experiencing a medical emergency aboard the vessel.

A Hercules aircraft was also dispatched to assist.

Search and rescue crews conducted a medevac at high seas and transported the patient to hospital in Gander.

The man is reported to be in stable condition.
