Meet Toronto pianist Tony Ann, whose talent got him a spot on The Chainsmokers' tour

It took just one YouTube video of Toronto pianist Tony Ann to impress The Chainsmokers and be asked to tour with them.

"I got really lucky with this one," Ann told CBC Toronto's Dwight Drummond.

On Tuesday night, he'll perform in front of a hometown crowd at Toronto's Air Canada Centre with the DJ/producer duo.

And get this: His first time ever setting foot in ACC will be to play a show there.

Ann records himself playing popular songs on piano and adds a classical music sound to his covers.

That's exactly what he did with two Chainsmokers' songs.

"I put the Roses and Don't Let Me Down video on YouTube last March 2016 and Drew, one of the dudes from The Chainsmokers, he commented on it," Ann said.

Ann believes they found his contact information in his bio. And he says what happened next changed his life.

"They e-mailed me one or two days after posting it and I just flipped out," said Ann. "Because that's really the dream right there."

To pursue that dream, the 23-year-old pianist decided to leave Berklee College of Music where he had been studying in Boston, Massachusetts.

"I just really want to dedicate my time and energy to my career right now," explained Ann.

While in school, music was always on his mind

"I didn't party, I didn't go out, I didn't gig. I just dedicated my time to my covers. And in my head I was like, 'One day someone is going to see it,'" said Ann.

Someone did. His first gig ever was on Saturday Night Live.

Ann is currently travelling across North America on The Chainsmokers Memories: Do Not Open 2017 tour.

Once the tour is over, Ann plans on moving to Los Angeles to work on another project called The Swoons and hopes to continue working with The Chainsmokers

"They're two of the nicest dudes to work with, super fun and it's been the best time ever."

You'll notice Ann getting a hug from one of the band members in this tour video.

Ann expects his Toronto performance to be an emotional one, with his parents right by his side.

"My parents have been with me throughout this entire journey and knowing how much they've supported me and knowing that their kid has gone somewhere, they're obviously really proud," he said.

"I can't wait to see them stageside tomorrow, because that's going to be one of the best moments ever."
