  • In the new Sussex biography, Finding Freedom, it's revealed that Duchess Meghan used a single emoji to describe her excitement over superstars Beyoncé and Jay-Z giving the duchess a shout-out in their 2019 Brit Awards acceptance speech.

  • Meghan reportedly discussed the surprise moment with her longtime makeup artist, Daniel Martin.

Even the Duchess of Sussex gets starstruck—especially when it comes to Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

According to the new Sussex-centered biography, Finding Freedom, by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, Meghan got super excited when Beyoncé and Jay-Z gave the duchess a shout-out during their 2019 Brit Awards acceptance speech. As the superstar duo said a few words after taking home the win for Best International Group, they posed in front of a painted portrait of the Duchess of Sussex, paying homage to her recent induction into the royal family and their art-centric music video for their collaboration "Apeshit."

Upon seeing the Carters' surprise shout-out, Meghan reportedly texted her dedicated makeup artist, Daniel Martin, with a reaction to the news.

"I think all I wrote was, 'Girl,'" said Martin who shared the video with Meghan via text message. "She wrote me back, like, the big-eye emoji."

Meghan isn't the only royal family member who loves to utilize an emoji to showcase emotion, however. Finding Freedom also reveals that Prince Harry's emoji usage helped convince his wife-to-be that he was worth a second date.

"[Harry's] messages were often short and full of emojis, in particular the ghost emoji, which he often used instead of a smiley face," reads an excerpt from the book. "For what reason? Nobody knows. But Meghan found his texting etiquette funny and adorable, just like the prince."
