- In never before seen footage, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, called some of the women who were featured in the September issue she guest-edited for British Vogue.
- Laverne Cox, Jane Fonda, and Yara Shahidi were among the the lucky stars who received the unexpected phone calls.
Meghan Markle showed off her editorial prowess last year when she guest-edited the September issue of British Vogue. For her historical cover story, she featured 15 different stars whose work raises "the bar for equality, kindness, justice and open mindedness."
Now, in a never before seen video of her chatting with Edward Enninful, Meghan has revealed that she gave unexpected phone calls to three of those cover stars: Laverne Cox, Jane Fonda, and Yara Shahidi.
"Oh my god," was Cox's immediate response to hearing the duchess's voice. "Oh my god, hi!"
Meghan responded, "Just know that we are so, so proud that you're on the cover with everything you represent. ... You're a true force for change."
Next up was Grown-ish star Shahidi.
"I kid you not," Meghan told Shahidi. "The very first name that I said I wanted on the cover was you."
By the time Enninful and the duchess got Fonda on the phone, the actress and activist had some of her own inspiring words to pour over Meghan.
"Meghan, I'm so proud of you for using your amazing platform and your strong voice," Fonda told her. "And I'm so honored to be a part of it with all those other amazing women. Thank you so much for including me."
Waiting for my phone call from the duchess right about now..
