Meghan Markle's makes an understated Royal Ascot debut in Givenchy

With husband Prince Harry in tow, Meghan Markle made her royal debut at Britain’s most prestigious horse-racing event, the Royal Ascot.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived alongside the Queen as part of the royal procession to commemorate the opening of the five-day event that was first founded in 1711 by Queen Anne. The event is a highlight in British high-society’s calendar and is ‘synonymous with sartorial elegance’ thanks to its formal dress code.

Markle opted for an understated white silk belted silk dress by Givenchy, her favourite go-to designer. While Markle’s look was polished, the standout feature of her outfit was her black and white Philip Treacy hat.

Markle accessorized the look with a coordinating satin Givenchy jewelled clutch, black pumps (with stockings) and diamond earrings from Birks.

Markle’s tailored monochrome look differs greatly from her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton who chose a more formal and classically feminine look for her first Royal Ascot appearance in 2016.

Dressed in a cream lace Dolce & Gabbana dress and ivory fascinator, the Duchess of Cambridge looked elegant pairing the look with diamond drop earrings and nude heels.

In 2017, Middleton went on to repeat her look by wearing a similar lace dress, this time in white with a high-neckline by Alexander McQueen.

Despite the more demure, and dare-we say underwhelming outfit choice, Markle will undoubtedly be a stand-out as she joins Prince Harry to make the trophy presentations for the day’s fourth race, the St. James Palace Stakes.
