Megyn Kelly responded to an audience question about the divisive 'take a knee' movement that is dominating the conversation around the NFL.
The former FOX News personality revealed on the second day of "Megyn Kelly Today" on Tuesday morning that she has a "different take on that whole situation," citing her past work as a lawyer as giving her an alternative perspective on the issue.
"I would never be at a sporting event [to begin with]," she jokingly began her very diplomatic response.
"I have a different take on that whole situation, you know, with the NFL," Kelly continued. "I practiced law for nine years, and I am a lover of the First Amendment. I think this whole situation underscores some of the beauty of our country, because those players have every right to take a knee and those who object to it have every right to say they object, you know? That's America, right?"
"I believe that the fundamental principle -- the bedrock of the First Amendment -- is, 'The answer to speech we do not like is not less speech, it's more speech.'"
"I just sort of think, 'Go USA!'" she finished to applause.
The moment comes one day after Kelly controversially proclaimed on her show that she was "done" with politics, after nearly 13 years at FOX News. In the lead-up to the show's premiere this week, Kelly pointed to Donald Trump and the media blitz around him as reasons for her ultimately deciding to jump ship at the conservative-leaning cable news channel.
Over the weekend, countless NFL players supported the so-called "take a knee" movement in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, who pioneered the symbolic move during the National Anthem in protest of the song and our "country that oppresses black people and people of color."
President Donald Trump criticized players who employed the move and joined the protest, calling them "sons of b--ches," while many celebrities showed solidarity with the players. John Legend and Stevie Wonder were some of the performers who took a knee themselves during high-profile performances over the weekend, as well.
