Melania Trump channels Jackie O in blue Ralph Lauren dress

Wrapped in blue Ralph Lauren cashmere and matching suede gloves, it looks like America’s new First Lady is taking style cues from a predecessor, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, during her husband’s swearing in ceremony today.

Worn with a modernized twist, we’re seeing style components that Jackie O famously wore on inauguration day back in 1961.

Borrowing from one of America’s most stylish First Ladies is a clever move for the new FLOTUS, whose inauguration outfit choice would be knowingly scrutinized down to the very last stitch.

“It was important to us to uphold and celebrate the tradition of creating iconic American style for this moment,” Ralph Lauren said of dressing Trump.

Trump and Kenndy aren’t the only leading ladies who’ve opted for a pastel blue during milestone events — Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, also favours the shade.

According to colour psychology, blue represents authority, structure, communication, dependability, trust and loyalty.
